Parking on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign faces several management issues that impacts our operation's efficiency. Surface parking has been the traditional solution for meeting the parking demand. The campus now has 123 surface parking lots, a reduction from 147 lots less than two years ago. Many of these facilities accommodate less than 100 vehicles making it difficult to achieve maximum operating efficiency. The campus currently has five parking structures in operation with the addition of B04 on University Avenue in 2004.

Although the efficiency of small parking lots is challenging, their availability as sites for future building development in the Campus Master Plan creates greater parking problems in the near future. Since the Campus Master Plan indicates the eventual loss of all surface parking in the center of campus, the Parking Master Plan requires building new parking structures immediately. (contd...)
